FEATURED ARTICLES

Specially written Editor's reviews of the hottest new articles

Myosin-II: An extending tail

Whereas myosin-IIA forms actin cables in regions of protrusion, myosin IIB is confined to the rear where its activation induces the formation of an extended tail that supports directional migration.

Adhesion dynamics: Actin and microtubules get along with ACF7

The microtubule-actin crosslinking protein ACF7 coordinates microtubule growth along filamentous actin towards focal adhesions (FAs). Microtubule targeting to FAs is required for FA turnover and cell migration.

Kim Baumann Original research paper: Cell 135, 137-148 (2008)

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

Synopses of important recent articles

Membrane trafficking: Recycling integrins

Two studies now provide insights into the regulation of integrin trafficking by the Rab family of small GTPases in both cell migration and cytokinesis.

Metastasis: Preparing the soil

A new pathway involving Toll-like receptor 4 has been shown to enhance metastasis to the lungs by promoting the accumulation of macrophages and haematopoietic progenitors.
